The 14-day clock starts on signed brief. Briefs requiring novel chemistry or ingredients outside the R&D library may extend; we flag this at brief-acceptance, not after.

Plant conditions (water hardness, metals, temperature, throughput), target performance metrics (e.g., L/tonne for coolants, % efficiency for water-treatment), regulatory geography (target market for the finished output), ingredient constraints (boron-free, low-VOC, biocide-free, etc.), and the volume + frequency you expect to order at production scale. Standard model: the manufacturer retains know-how; the buyer licenses the specific recipe for their application; the regulatory dossier is built jointly. The arrangement is negotiable — buyers can secure exclusive rights to a formulation in a defined geography or application via contract. The default is non-exclusive licence with manufacturer retention of know-how.

Development cost is amortized into the per-unit production price across the first 12 months. There is no upfront 'formulation fee' separate from production. Buyers committing to a defined annual volume receive a price band at the brief acceptance stage; production unit cost is fixed at sample sign-off.

1-2 iteration cycles are included as standard. Each cycle: ~5-10 working days for re-formulation + re-sample. If after 2 iterations the formulation cannot meet the brief targets, the brief is documented as 'not achievable in scope' and no production commitment applies. This is rare — fewer than 5% of briefs from the last reporting year — but the path is documented up front.
